Five on Friday: Recap

Happy Friday everyone! Hopefully you were all lucky enough to have a short week….I am just coming off of a 10 day vacation that I was able to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve/Day with my parents, Mimi, Grandma, SJ, and Sean. It was a fantastic time and my Five on Friday is dedicated to what all has happened in the past 10 days.

I am linking up again with Christina, April, Darci, and Natasha!

[ONE] SJ’s First Christmas

I now completely understand when people say giving is more fun than receiving. SJ was only 5 months old for his first Christmas and yet he got excited over every toy. Granted, it was because he wanted to get a hold of it to put it in his mouth, but I will take those sweet faces any day. I have already started planning Christmas for next year – and bought a large amount of Target Christmas on clearance for the decor!

[TWO] New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve was very low key this year, but still very fun. My parents invited over their friends and their 3 little boys, as well as my cousins and their 3 month old son. I got to play party planner and handled all of the decor and the majority of the menu. My mom and Mimi were great assistants though and I think everything turned out pretty cute!

I created the fringed garland using this tutorial I found on pinterest. I wanted to make sparkly cheers or bubbly letters, but waited too long (there was a lot of fun stuff to be done besides crafts) so I improvised by cutting C-H-E-E-R-S out of foil paper. The 2014 banner is foil number pasted onto a sparkly black card stock that I got inspiration from here. The hats, crowns, glasses, horns, and poppers were all found at Target and Wal-Mart. I should have backed the buffet with a white sheet so that it popped more, but I’ll make a note of it for next year! How were your New Year’s celebrations? Did they end with sweet kisses like these:

[THREE] Current Accessory Obsessions

This scarf (similar here) and yes, that’s an office selfie…..judge away friends, but the scarf is F-A-B.

And these earrings (found here) a sweet Christmas gift from my amazing hubs!

[FOUR] Core Body Reformer

Staying true to our new fitness goals, Meghan and I ordered the Core Body Reformer. It’s a Pilates machine, so I am excited to give it a try because I have heard great things about Pilates for women who have had babies. It comes in tomorrow, but we will do our first workout with it on Wednesday and I will give you an update on how that goes!

Screen Shot 2014-01-02 at 9.39.22 PM

Speaking of workouts, Meghan and I did this one tonight – short but brutal!

[FIVE] Binge-Watching

Sean and I are very guilty about getting into a show way later than anyone else. This is mostly because we are both really busy with our jobs (especially during basketball season) so it’s hard to commit, and then on the weekends we like to run errands and spend time as a family rather than catch up on DVR shows. This has led us to constantly Binge-Watch various shows (Mad Men and Gossip Girl being the previous choices.) Right now we are totally sucked into Breaking Bad…’s addicting (pun intended). Four solid days at my parents’s house and we are now starting Season 4. OBSESSED.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and I look forward to catching up with you Monday!

Hopes, Dreams, & Resolutions for the New Year – [Pop Fizz Zzz Link-Up]

Happy Thursday everyone!

I am back at work today after 10 amazing days spent with my family and my little nugget. Seriously, it made me never want to leave him again….but if I did that, then it would be really hard to stick to my resolutions this year. Today I am linking up with Khala and Samantha for the Pop, Fizz, Zzz link-up.

And actually, we aren’t going to call them resolutions. Why, you ask? Because I suck at those. I think the longest I have ever stuck to a resolution has been a month, and that was when I gave up soda. I have better luck with that during lent (40 days rather than 30!) Goals I am good at, I can set them and achieve them. The best way to do this is with mini goals leading up to the big goal. So I have put together a list of my goals for 2014 and the mini goals that will lead up to them. i also split them out into the Personal and Professional categories (because that’s how I separate my life).

I actually have a few other goals as well, but currently they aren’t something that I want to put out in the open until I have all of the logistics worked out. I do of course want to get out of debt, and stick to an actual budget each month, but that is something I am going to put into a singular post, because I think it deserves a full post.

Here are a few things I found on pinterest that you can use when planning and executing your goals for the new year!

My hopes and dreams for 2014 are simple. I just hope that SJ grows to know how loved and blessed he is, and that Sean and I are able to soak up every single second because he’s already changed so much in the past 10 days, so I can’t even imagine how the next year is going to go!

I can’t wait to see what y’all are wishing and planning for this year!

Workout Wednesdays

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you had an amazing night and got a kiss when the ball dropped!

With the New Year comes new resolutions, so I wanted to start mine with getting healthy and back in shape. It’s now been over 5 months since I had SJ and I am rarely walking more than once or twice a week, and it’s just not going to cut it. I have made a pact with one of my dear friends, Meghan, to work out at least once a week via FaceTime and to keep each other accountable, so I thought, why not blog about it? That will keep me accountable, right? If not accountable, at least provide some sort of encouragement…

I will blog tomorrow about my goals for the New Year, but for now, I will leave you with some of my favorite websites for free workouts – listen, this addiction to Baby GAP doesn’t leave much money left over for a gym membership. Plus, y’all know how crowded the gym is at the beginning of the year!

  • Fitness Blender – my friend Mackenzie told me about this one. Their workouts can get pretty difficult. I plan on doing these at least twice a week with my kettle bell and free weights at home.
  • Fitness Buddy – this is an app that I have on my phone. It’s awesome because you can choose what type of workout, what area you want to target, how long you have to work out. I haven’t tried it out yet, but I will definitely let you know how the first work out goes!
  • Pinterest – There are SO many free routines on here. You can check out my Motivation board to see all of the different workouts, recipes, etc. that I have pinned to be used on this new venture.

Alright y’all, we can do this….I will post every Wednesday on my workouts for the week, my faves, feelings, results – and I want you to do the same! Let me know what you are doing, what advice you have, any routines you love. We are going to kick this baby weight’s behind, because the only rolls I want to see are the cute ones on my baby’s chunky thighs.

SJ is Five Months Old!

I can’t believe that it’s the end of the year and I am spending my New Year’s Eve with a five month old! People aren’t lying when they say time goes by so fast. He already is so different than a month ago and a totally different baby than when he was born!

Height and Weight: At 4 months, he was 16 lbs 15 ozs and 27 and 3/4 inches long. We don’t go back to the doctor until 6 months.

Health:  He’s been great this month. All we have dealt with is some baby acne and rashes. The doctor said that this is normal and recommended we scrub him up more when bathing. We tried that and it worked out great.

Sleep: So he usually sleeps from 8 PM to 12 AM, and then wakes up and fusses a bit. I usually pull him into bed with me (I know, worst habit EVER) and then he falls back asleep until around 5:30-6 AM. I will nurse him around this time, then give him to Sean and they sleep until around 7 while I get up and get ready for work.

Diet: We started on solid food around the beginning of December. He isn’t a fan of rice cereal or oatmeal, but loves apples, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pears, and most recently carrots. He still nurses in the morning and at night, and drinks 3-4 7 oz bottles at daycare. He is still 100% on breastmilk. (so blessed for that!)

Clothes: We are up to 9-12 month clothing based on the brand. He got quite the wardrobe for Christmas, and then I picked up a few more things at Old Navy and Gap. I try to only buy his clothes on sale, because most companies will seriously discount their baby clothes within 2-3 weeks of releasing them. He typically wears onesies and soft pants for daycare, and then I have dressier clothes for our family outings and holidays. I am debating buying him a couple pairs of leggings from easy. Has anyone bought these and have any feedback?

Baby gear love: We are still loving the mamaroo and our piano playmat. He got a Baby Einstein jumper and loves it. He doesn’t really jump around in it yet, but loves to stand or stomp his feet. He is also a fan of his Green Toys twist teether toy that he got from his Citrus Lane box. That was the best little subscription we ever made. He falls in love with at least one toy from there a month, and they always have some great stuff for me! Sophie the giraffe is worth every penny – he gets so excited when we give it to him and will chew on it for hours. I got a new stroller this month – we sold our orbit on craigslist – and got the B-Ready on sale on Amazon. I love it because it’s very sturdy and easily converts to add another seat for baby #2. (don’t get all excited just yet….this isn’t even in talks)

Crying: He still cries when he is hungry, or when he is fighting a nap. He hates napping and will let himself get so tired before he actually falls asleep.

Likes: Eating and being held. Walks in his stroller. Chewing on whatever he can get to his mouth. Neck and side nibbles make him giggle and he loves raspberries on his belly. He is also a huge fan of watching sports with his Daddy. 🙂

Dislikes: Going too long between feedings and naps.

Postpartum: I am seriously having body image issues right now, but with the new year and new resolutions, I am hoping to get back on track. I have a gym in my neighborhood I plan on going to in the mornings, as well as doing workouts off of

Social: He is still so happy and smiley at everyone. He “talks” a lot more and has started screeching when excited. It sounds annoying, and may eventually be, but right now it’s adorable and makes me laugh.

Milestones: He literally started to sit up a bit 5 days before he turned 5 months old. He is still a bit wobbly, but can sit up for at least 5-10 seconds before falling forward. He can also twist and squirm himself places when on his back, and kicks like he is trying to crawl when on his belly.

This little boy is just amazing and every day I feel like he is learning and soaking up everything around him. 2013 was a bit of a rough year for my family, but he has brought so much joy to our lives that I still feel very blessed. I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store and am excited for him to get on the move!

Pop Fizz Zzz: New Years Party Decor

Oh hey y’all – how’s December been?

Mine has been pretty crazy with the gift buying and traveling and planning for the perfect Christmas for the perfect 5 month old that doesn’t even know it’s Christmas….but all of that is over now. Christmas was amazing and SJ seemed to have a blast. I will post pictures later, because they are ADORABLE, duh.

Now it’s time to focus on the next holiday – New Year’s Eve! We are with my family this year, and staying in because I’m a helicopter mom new mom that wants to make as many memories with her baby that she can. So I am planning the decor and food for the guests my mom invited over. And to share that – I am linking up today with Samantha and Khala for their New Years Eve link up! I missed last week’s outfit post, but let’s be serious, I will be in Nike shorts and a tank top.

Now, I am thinking fun, glitter, and champagne for our design jumping off point. I already bought this beautiful Star Garland from Aidie’s Hideaway. I am obsessed with it. It’s such good quality, and I have already started brainstorming other party ideas I can use it for!

Then I found the below ideas on Pinterest for a fun bubbly bar!

That second image seriously makes me want to paint a chalkboard wall in my house and use it for all holiday backdrops…

Then, what about a fun Photo Booth area? There’s going to be a few new parents there, so why not have a spot where they can insta their first New Years Eve?!

Now to get to Hobby Lobby and gather up all of my sparkly supplies! I will keep you posted on how it turns out! To see more of my ideas, follow me on pinterest

And come back next week for Hopes, Dreams, and Resolutions (guess who will be adding “Keep up with blog posts” to theirs!)

Hope your Christmas was spent snuggling up to those you love, and that you are preparing for a New Year full of sparkle!

Mommy Must Haves

So I am a first time, still fairly new mom…but for others who are in the same boat or about to be new moms I wanted to share some items that worked for me. All of these have been a hit with SJ, so I hope that some of you also find that these items work for you too!

1. Mamaroo by 4moms – We originally had a different swing, but SJ wouldn’t settle down in it. We were at Babies R Us one night and SJ was fussy, so I told Sean to put him in a Mamaroo display that was on. He settled down immediately and fell asleep. We bought it that night (with 20% off so it was the same price as his other swing). He’s a little harder to settle down now than he used to be, but the Mamaroo still helps settle him down and puts him to sleep at nap times with it’s different settings. He’s a fan of the Kangaroo and Car Ride. It’s also nice because he can sit in it while stationary and watch cartoons or just hang out if he wants.

2.  Fisher-Price Discover ‘n Grow Kick and Play Piano Gym – I have told of my love for this in his month update posts and Five on Friday post….it’s seriously the best! He bangs on the keys with his feet and smiles and laughs. It’s so fun! He also has now started pulling on the hanging toys. He is obsessed with the little mirror because I am pretty sure he realizes how handsome he is. I am excited for him to be able to sit up and bang on the piano keys with his hands. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a play mat/gym.

3. Pacifier Clips – I actually just found these monogrammed clips tonight and am going to order a couple for daycare so that he has his name on it in case they get mixed up. A paci clip to me is essential because you never know when your baby is going to be over sucking on his paci and spit it out. A clip keeps it from hitting the ground and needing to be washed constantly. A monogrammed pacifier clip is essential for the south!

4. Maxi Cosi carseat – It’s no secret that SJ is a big baby. We had him in an infant carseat (Orbit) but he was so scrunched up on car rides that he would scream. I researched several different convertible car seats because if we were going to buy another one, I wanted him to have one that would grow with him. We chose the Maxi Cosi because it’s one of the carseats that grows the most (70 lbs, 52 inches) and that was important with having a taller child. Also, the fabric itself is cooler for SJ (he has his momma’s sweat glands) and it is super comfortable. He rarely cries in the car now unless he’s hungry. LOVE IT!

5. Bibdanas – SJ has started drooling….a lot. However, being a mom who is in love with style, I didn’t want to just put a bib on him to keep his clothes clean (I can feel you rolling your eyes at me, but I want my baby to look as stylish as me!). Enter the bibdanas. I actually found these on instagram by loved_by_lil_wilsons. She hand makes them and they are either reversible or terry-cloth lined. I bought a set of 5 for $40 and am obsessed! Keep an eye on my instagram to see my little man rock them. It’s the cool way to drool!

6. Pampers Baby Dry – Babies go through a LOT of diapers. I read this everywhere, but didn’t believe it until I had one of my own. We were using Pampers Swaddlers and I loved those because they were so soft, but the baby dry are AH-MAZING! Being that SJ is a breastfed baby, he occasionally skips days and will have blowouts the next. These diapers contain those blowouts like a champ! Nothing makes me happier than not having to soak his clothes in some oxyclean to get out stains.

7. Aden by aden + anais Muslin Swaddle Blanket  – I am OBSESSED with these. One of our friends that has a baby (Colin, who has been on the blog) had one of these over at our house and told us about them. They are nice and big, so it was super easy to swaddle SJ with them. Also, they are light so he can use them at night without getting too hot and they are perfect for covering his stroller on walks so the sun doesn’t shine on him but he doesn’t overheat. They sell these everywhere – amazon, target, babies r us, buy buy baby – register for them!

8. aden + anais Muslin burpy bib – These are made of the same material as the swaddles so they are nice and soft, but double lined and quilted so they are very absorbent. I love them because they are bigger to drape over your shoulder AND can be snapped around his neck as a bib. Things that serve dual purposes are perfect for throwing in the diaper bag so that you don’t overflow it (I overpack constantly) and they are great to have a few stashed in the kitchen, nursery, bathroom, wherever.

9. Ulma NoShow Washable Nursing Pads – Ok, Dad and any other men reading this, you may want to skip this item because I am about to get a little in depth. For nursing mommas out there, I tried every brand of disposable nursing pad I could but kept running into the issue of chaffing. It was SO painful and I would cry while feeding SJ. I read some articles on this and it said that disposable nursing pads tend to keep your nipples wet because of the plastic liners and this can lead to chaffing and infections! So I ditched the disposable and started searching for reusable nursing pads. After trying a few different kinds, I found these Ulma ones on Etsy (I am an etsy fanatic). They are AH-MAZING. I have yet to have any issues of chaffing since using them and no leaks! I bought 4 daytime pairs and two overnight pairs. They are incredible and so easy to wash and re-use. Plus they are so much cheaper in the long run than disposable.

10. Zipper Pajamas – I highly recommend zippered pajamas to ALL moms out there. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to undo snaps at 1 AM on a screaming baby so you can change his diaper. These zippered ones from the Children’s Place are perfect and come in so many cute patterns. I have 8 pairs so far, and will continue to stock up as he grows.

So there are just a few of the items that I have used so far and can’t imagine life without. Most of them I came across by trial and error, but I will be sticking with them in the long run!

One item that I am still trying to find the perfect option of is a stroller! We had an orbit, but I am now trying to sell it (let me know if you want it!) because it’s just not working out for SJ. We are wanting one that can convert to a double stroller so that we can keep it whenever Baby #2 comes along. Right now the front runner is Phil & Teds Navigator stroller. Has anyone used this stroller? Do you have any other suggestions?

Case of the Mondays

Today is the day….the first day I go back to work and the first day I don’t spend every waking minute with my precious baby. It’s going to be tough, I know it. “Luckily”, I got an extra week with him because my dad had a heart attack last Thursday and I went down to stay with him while he was in the hospital – and take care of him when he came home. Plus, SJ can cheer anyone up, ESPECIALLY his Grandpa. However, that is a post for another day.

Since I knew today would be a very somber day for me, I decided to make this post dedicated to something pretty. I found this picture on pinterest and knew I wanted to revamp our bedroom.

I am still trying to find the perfect nigh stands and lamps, so I thought I would first makeover our bed. We actually already have that chevron duvet from West Elm, but it’s on a big chunky four poster bed with boring white sheets. Here are my plans to make everything more modern and a little more luxurious.

1. That bed frame is exactly what I have been looking for! It’s tufted, gray, and upholstered. Very glamorous, yet neutral enough to makeover multiple times (which I will). Plus, it’s from Target so that price is just as enticing as the bed itself.

2. This chevron duvet from West Elm is the love of my life. I think I will be able to use it for years to come mixing with patterns, colors, solids, you name it. And it’s super soft and organic, so I can feel a little better about my environmental footprint. Plus I snagged it on super sale, so I paid about $75 for a king size duvet and two shams.

3. I wanted to keep this whole look very monochromatic because I think that feels very luxurious, but I still wanted to layer patterns. These stripe sheets from West Elm are a beautiful gray and white stripe that play off of the chevron, however they aren’t so loud that they clash. Always splurge on high thread count sheets – it’s the difference in staying at the Ritz….or the Econolodge every night.

4. Everything Caitlin Wilson makes I die over. She is a genius when it comes to layering patterns and colors. These mint and coral throw pillows are the perfect pop in a black and gray bedroom. Y’all know I can’t go without any color! She has a large assortment of collections and these are a part of her Mint Fleur Chinoiserie collection. Perfection! And on my Christmas list. Hope Santa reads my blog.

5. So, y’all probably think I am crazy, but I am loving the idea of painting my master bedroom black. Or at least the wall that the bed is against. Currently, it’s a bright aqua that is gorgeous, but I want our bedroom to feel more glamorous than playful. It makes it feel like a resort more than just our bedroom. This is Universal Black by Benjamin Moore. I will definitely grab about 4 paint pots before settling on the perfect  black, but I liked how this looked online.

What do y’all think? Would you go black in your bedroom? Also, I need help deciding on nightstands…Should I go mirrored, white lacquer, stay monochromatic with a gray, or even bring in some chunky wood? Help me out!! I am still searching for all the perfect pieces to finish the room, but for now I will snuggle up in this perfect bed.

It’s already 3 months!

This is the closest post to his actual month “birthday” that I have been. I am going to have a cinnamon roll for breakfast as a reward. J SJ turned 3 months old this past Saturday and I can’t believe how much he changes every day! What all other moms say is true – he’s growing so fast!

Height and Weight: We did this at home because we don’t go back to the doctor until 4 months, so according to our measurements he’s 16 lbs 6 ozs and 27 inches.

Health:  He is still doing great. Cradle cap is gone. We did have some issues with a stuffy nose, but we used this little Swedish tool where you suck the snot out of his nose (how appetizing does that sound – you literally suck on a tube) and although he screamed while we did it, it cleared him up every time!

Sleep: This is still about the same as it was. He is still sleeping in the bassinet next to our bed, but this is probably more for mommy than SJ. He does think that his crib is a playpen I believe. But in the bassinet it’s sleep from 8 PM to 6 AM with one period of fussiness that needs to be pacified.

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 7.02.33 AM

Diet: Right now, SJ is still only breastfeeding…and eating a lot! I just bought The Wholesome Baby Food Guide and intend to start introducing him to solid foods after his 4 month check-up as recommended by his pediatrician.

Clothes: SJ is in between 6 and 9 month onesies. He is so long! He has a great wardrobe because his mommy loves to shop. Also, GAP and Old Navy seriously need to stop coming out with the cutest little boy things. I checked GAP just last night and they have a whole crop of new sweaters, including a fair isle cardigan that will be on him come Christmas time. If anyone wants to send me a gift card to help me from going into debt, Sean would appreciate it. 😉

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 7.02.06 AM

Baby gear love: He still loves his Mamaroo and piano play mat. He also has Geraldo the giraffe to snuggle with and chew on. He’s starting to grab onto things more, so he loves the colorful links I have that he can easily grab onto and swing around.

Crying: He is starting to cry more when he is tired and is getting harder to put down. He really fights his naps, but once he falls asleep, he still sleeps very soundly.

Likes: Eating, sleeping, and being held are still his favorite things. He loves when you snort on his neck and will just giggle and laugh! His little laugh is seriously the best. He also loves lots of kisses!

Dislikes: Being hungry or tired!

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 7.01.35 AM

Postpartum: Things are about to get rough for me. I go back to work next week and I am pretty sure it’s going to be a tear fest for at least a month. I apologize in advance to my coworkers. I did get 50 free prints from shutterfly, so I have been working this week to get those in frames to turn my desk into an SJ shrine.

Social: He is still so social with his smiles and “chit-chat.” He has become quite the little flirt too. If a lady is talking to him, he’ll raise his eyebrows at her and grin….this could be bad news for the future!

Milestones: SJ is still doing great with tummy time and has rolled onto his back a few times, and been SO proud about it! We took family photos with Kristin Vining this past week that I will share in another post – AH-MAZING! Seriously, every time I look at them, I tear up. He also is a little wiggle worm and just kicks and shakes all the time! We had a family trip to Asheville with my dad for the Bobcats training camp, and the weather was so perfect. We also went to our first Bobcats game in the arena and he loved it! He watched most of the game and never once got fussy…such a good boy!

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 7.02.20 AM

I am hoping to get up some more posts this week that aren’t baby related, but fingers crossed!

Two Months for Baby SJ!

Ok y’all, time for a 2 month update. Better late than never, right? We are so in love with this munchkin that I have been spending all of my time playing, feeding, or staring at him sleep….so sorry for the radio silence on the blog!

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 9.09.04 PM

Height and Weight: According to his two-month check-up, he’s 14 lbs 13 ozs and 25.25 inches. He is definitely going to be a big boy. He dangles his feet off my Breast Friend pillow already, so I am going to have to be creative as the months go on with holding him to nurse because he is heavy!

Health:  He is still doing great. All of his acne and rashes are gone. We just have a little bit of cradle cap to deal with. We have been using Baby oil, Aveeno conditioning shampoo, and a scrub brush.

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 9.09.43 PM

Sleep: SJ is still going to bed around 8 PM and sleeps through the night without needing to wake up to feed. He does get fussy around 4 AM, but we can usually calm him down with his pacifier…or by pulling him into bed. He wakes up around 6 AM to eat, and then will nap from 9-11 and nap again from 3-4.

Diet: Right now, SJ is still only breastfeeding…and eating a lot!

Clothes: SJ is in between 3 and 6 month onesies, 3 month tops, and 3 month bottoms. The bad part is he outgrows his clothes very quickly, the good part is I get to go shopping more!

Baby gear love: We traded in our Graco swing for a Mamaroo and SJ LOVES it! He will fall asleep in it, or just sit in it and watch TV or “talk” to the mobile that’s above him. It’s super cute and I am so happy that we got it. We also bought him a stuffed giraffe from Target that he loves to chew on. We have named him Geraldo and need to go buy a few more because it calms him down when he gets fussy in the car. Also, SJ is loving mirrors and especially the one on his piano play mat. He stares at himself in it and smiles and then kicks the tar out of his piano! SO CUTE!

Crying: He is still mainly crying only when he is hungry, but he will get fussy when he’s tired or doesn’t want to play anymore. He’s relatively easy to calm down though with his pacifier and rocking…and some enjoyable singing of my favorite top 40 hits of course.

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 9.10.30 PM

Likes: Eating, sleeping, and being held are still his favorite things. He loves looking in mirrors or watching TV. Sean thinks it’s because he loves sports because he watches especially when football is on.

Dislikes: Being hungry or tired.

Postpartum: I am currently doing great. It’s cooling down outside so I have been able to walk a lot more. I have gotten to walk with both my mom when she’s been in town and Sean, so it’s been really nice.

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 9.09.27 PM

Social: Oh my goodness, such a big jump here. He smiles at people now when they smile at him. That smile melts my heart!! It’s so sweet and happy and his whole face lights up. He also coos a little and will sometimes go crazy with his “chit-chat”. I am pretty sure God made babies smile early on so that sleep deprived parents felt like they were doing a good job, and it works like a charm! I am so in love with this little boy! He did have his first play date…but had no idea that Colin was there to play with him.

Milestones: SJ has gotten really strong with holding his head up for extended periods of time when on his tummy. He also loves to kick and move his arms. He will hold onto a toy if you put it in his hand, but won’t actively grab it yet. He did get to go to his first UNC Charlotte football game (it was hot so we mostly just stayed in the shade with his friend Colin and Colin’s mom Ashley).

Wedding Wednesday

I know, it’s Thursday and I shouldn’t ever try to go back a day and make the week go by slower, but Wedding Thursday just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Plus, I meant to post this on Wednesday but Tuesday was Sean’s birthday and we went out to dinner and didn’t get home until late. So please forgive me, and pretend you read this on Wednesday while still getting ready for the weekend since you are only one day away!

This weekend I will be attending a dear friend of mine’s wedding. I am a bridesmaid, but won’t be in a bridesmaid’s dress so I had to come up with something fabulous to wear. I also have to incorporate one of the dresses I bought during the Endless Summer Lilly Sale….I went a little overboard, so I can’t afford to go out and get an “appropriate” fall dress. I feel as though this is a situation that affects a lot of us out there when attending fall weddings. You want to wear something fun and happy because it’s a wedding, but during the fall muted color and jewel tones are more appropriate. Well, lucky for you, I have devised an appropriate solution.

The dress below is the actual dress that I will be wearing to the wedding. It is the Lilly Posey dress, but it’s unfortunately no longer available. However, it is a quintessential spring/summer dress, so please feel free to sub in a favorite dress of yours when using this outfit equation.

Since layering is what you do in the fall, I chose a navy outer layer to throw over the dress. A navy blazer is always a great basic piece to add to your wardrobe and would be great for a more formal wedding that is being held at a country club or ballroom. I love a cardigan, I throw them over everything and own them in every color. I prefer the longer boyfriend style as I have a long torso, and I think the silhouette looks better on me. I also think the longer cardigans are more versatile for outfit options. You can throw them over dresses, tuck them into skirts, or have them cover your modesty when wearing leggings. A cardigan would be better for a more semi-formal wedding at a museum or vineyard. A denim jacket is another great option especially for a casual wedding that is being held outside. The heavier weight of denim will keep you warm, and it will also keep you from being “that girl” that overdressed at a wedding (although, I believe it’s better to overdress than underdress). Any of these options will work great with a spring printed dress, and can also be in any other neutral color that you prefer. Navy happens to look better on me than black or tan since I have a fairer complexion, and this is my outfit board so I get to choose what I want.

For shoes, I chose something that was close toed as I feel this takes that “spring look” out of the dress. However, chunky, strappy heels are very in for fall so definitely feel free to pick a shoe that makes you smile when you put it on. I love a wedge. They give you the height you want but have more support than a heel. A nude wedge will elongate your legs and they can literally be worn with everything from dresses and dress pants to boyfriend jeans. If you are feeling a bit more fashion forward and daring, booties are always hot for fall. I love this one with a metallic sole that adds a touch of glam and what girl doesn’t love some glitz and glam when going to a wedding?!

Now which options will I be choosing? You will have to see next week when I post pictures from the actual wedding…..and I hope to have those up on the REAL Wedding Wednesday.

How do you like to style up a spring/summer dress so you can carry it over into fall and winter?
