SJ is Five Months Old!

I can’t believe that it’s the end of the year and I am spending my New Year’s Eve with a five month old! People aren’t lying when they say time goes by so fast. He already is so different than a month ago and a totally different baby than when he was born!

Height and Weight: At 4 months, he was 16 lbs 15 ozs and 27 and 3/4 inches long. We don’t go back to the doctor until 6 months.

Health:  He’s been great this month. All we have dealt with is some baby acne and rashes. The doctor said that this is normal and recommended we scrub him up more when bathing. We tried that and it worked out great.

Sleep: So he usually sleeps from 8 PM to 12 AM, and then wakes up and fusses a bit. I usually pull him into bed with me (I know, worst habit EVER) and then he falls back asleep until around 5:30-6 AM. I will nurse him around this time, then give him to Sean and they sleep until around 7 while I get up and get ready for work.

Diet: We started on solid food around the beginning of December. He isn’t a fan of rice cereal or oatmeal, but loves apples, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pears, and most recently carrots. He still nurses in the morning and at night, and drinks 3-4 7 oz bottles at daycare. He is still 100% on breastmilk. (so blessed for that!)

Clothes: We are up to 9-12 month clothing based on the brand. He got quite the wardrobe for Christmas, and then I picked up a few more things at Old Navy and Gap. I try to only buy his clothes on sale, because most companies will seriously discount their baby clothes within 2-3 weeks of releasing them. He typically wears onesies and soft pants for daycare, and then I have dressier clothes for our family outings and holidays. I am debating buying him a couple pairs of leggings from easy. Has anyone bought these and have any feedback?

Baby gear love: We are still loving the mamaroo and our piano playmat. He got a Baby Einstein jumper and loves it. He doesn’t really jump around in it yet, but loves to stand or stomp his feet. He is also a fan of his Green Toys twist teether toy that he got from his Citrus Lane box. That was the best little subscription we ever made. He falls in love with at least one toy from there a month, and they always have some great stuff for me! Sophie the giraffe is worth every penny – he gets so excited when we give it to him and will chew on it for hours. I got a new stroller this month – we sold our orbit on craigslist – and got the B-Ready on sale on Amazon. I love it because it’s very sturdy and easily converts to add another seat for baby #2. (don’t get all excited just yet….this isn’t even in talks)

Crying: He still cries when he is hungry, or when he is fighting a nap. He hates napping and will let himself get so tired before he actually falls asleep.

Image

Likes: Eating and being held. Walks in his stroller. Chewing on whatever he can get to his mouth. Neck and side nibbles make him giggle and he loves raspberries on his belly. He is also a huge fan of watching sports with his Daddy. 🙂

Image

Dislikes: Going too long between feedings and naps.

Postpartum: I am seriously having body image issues right now, but with the new year and new resolutions, I am hoping to get back on track. I have a gym in my neighborhood I plan on going to in the mornings, as well as doing workouts off of Fitnessblender.com.

Image

Social: He is still so happy and smiley at everyone. He “talks” a lot more and has started screeching when excited. It sounds annoying, and may eventually be, but right now it’s adorable and makes me laugh.

Milestones: He literally started to sit up a bit 5 days before he turned 5 months old. He is still a bit wobbly, but can sit up for at least 5-10 seconds before falling forward. He can also twist and squirm himself places when on his back, and kicks like he is trying to crawl when on his belly.

This little boy is just amazing and every day I feel like he is learning and soaking up everything around him. 2013 was a bit of a rough year for my family, but he has brought so much joy to our lives that I still feel very blessed. I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store and am excited for him to get on the move!

XOXO
